I'm trying to find out what software is being used to hold a video object in the center of the screen while the "field of view" shifts around it. It's being used to hold a steady view of a target object in cases where the object moves erratically and/or the camcorder is moving and shaking a lot.

I've seen ufologists use this several times for studying UFO footage, and twice in bigfoot videos, but I can't find the software or even what the name of it is.

Im not sure what software is out there.  I think this is a fairly new feature and a lot of it is probably still some program that some professor has created.  I could probably make an algorithm to do it... sometime when I have more free time.

That sounds dangerously like volunteerism.

I'd like to take this opportunity to encourage that dangerous habit, and to join in with a volunteer to field-test the crap out of it when it's done.
